Tata H5X SUV (pictured) is a chip off the LAND ROVER block
The Tata H5X SUV Concept is a new direction for Tata – owners of Land Rover – with an upmarket SUV with Land Rover underpinnings and definite style influence.
Tata may be best known in the car world for having produced the world’s cheapest car – the Tata Nano – but they’re also pretty well know as the saviours of Jaguar Land Rover, having bought the ailing British car maker from Ford a decade ago.But now Tata’s two car worlds are starting to collide with the arrival of the Tata H5X SUV Concept at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi, a much more upmarket, aspirational SUV than anything Tata has delivered so far.
Underpinning the H5X is a modified version of the same platform which underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
As the H5X is still just a Concept, Tata weren’t too keen to give too many details away, but they do say the platform has been re-worked to suit India, and that it’s powered by a small diesel engine and with an interior which features a modern design, premium materials and multiple screens.
In terms of size, the H5X is about the same size as the Land Rover Discovery Sport – although not as high – and the styling certainly looks to have its roots in Land Rover and Range Rover.
What is a surprise is that it’s taken a decade for Tata to share what they have with Land Rover in the Tata range.
