Tesla Model S P85D gets ‘Ludicrous’ mode
The Tesla Model S P85 D – Tesla’s dual motor, 4WD Model S – can now be had with ‘Ludicrous’ mode which allows the Model S to get to 60mph in 2.8 seconds.
The arrival of the Tesla Model S P85D last year – complete with two electric motors delivering up to 682bhp and insane performance of 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds – seemed the likely pinnacle for electric car performance. But it looks like it was just the start.Elon Musk has now revealed a ‘Ludicrous’ option for the P 85 D which uses a smart fuse for the battery to increase the power flow from 1300 to 1500 amps, in the process delivering 10 per cent more power and getting the Ludicrous mode enhanced Model S to 60mph in 2.8 seconds.
Existing P85D owners can upgrade to the new Ludicrous option for $5k (there are no UK prices yet), and new buyers will need to pay an extra $10k for the option.
Other new stuff on offer for the Model S includes a new 90kWh battery pack that will cost $3k, and will mean the arrival of the Model X P90D too, we assume, a new entry-level model in the RWD Model S 70 RWD, and the promise that Tesla will improve range by 5 per cent a year for the foreseeable future thanks to improving battery technology.
Which all augers very well for the Model X SUV – when it eventually arrives – complete with the Ludicrous option.
