Elon Musk is promising a software ‘Easter Egg’ for the Tesla Model S and Model X P100D models with even more extreme performance.
It’s only a couple of months since Tesla revealed that the P90D versions of the Model S and Model X were being replaced by the P100D offering greater range and greater performance.
In fact, the performance levels of the new P100D are so extreme – 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds in the Model S – that there are almost no production cars – and certainly no seven-seat saloons – which can match the Model S – at any price.
In fact, the Model S P100D is as quick to 60mph as cars like the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1, but it seems that’s just not good enough for Elon Musk.
Taking to Twitter on Friday, Musk said:
Forgot to mention there will be a P100D Ludicrous Easter egg soon that uncorks the full performance

What exactly “uncorks the full performance” means is anyone’s guess, but it would be reasonable to assume it will mean greater power and more range. Although you won’t get both at the same time.
Just how much further Tesla want to push outright acceleration remains to be seen, but it’s a good way of garnering headlines and bragging rights ahead of the arrival of cars like the Porsche Mission E.
If you have a P100D – Models S or Model X – more new on its Easter Egg is doubtless imminent.
