The McLaren Senna arrives as a new McLaren Ultimate Series car, with 789bhp and weighing just 1198kg. All 500 Sennas sold at £750,000.
It’s five years since the McLaren P1 arrived as the McLaren Ultimate Series car, but now it has a sibling – the McLaren Senna. The Senna is the ultimate road-legal track car there is, according to McLaren, and comes with a low weight – just 1198kg – extreme aerodynamics and a power boost to 789bhp.
McLaren aren’t delivering any performance information yet, but it seems likely the Senna will hit 62mph in around 2.5 seconds and go round bends like it’s on rails.
The unique looks of the Senna come from its extreme aerodynamic functions dominating the design process, with a huge active rear wing and front splitter, huge air scoops, mad wheel arches and aerodynamic functions everywhere.
But this isn’t a car to take the place of the P1, it’s sole aim being to get round a track quicker than anything else. Despite that, the Senna is road-legal, which makes us wonder what McLaren plans to do with the Senna. Le Mans, perhaps?
The 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 comes from the 720S, but here it gets a monster 789bhp and 590lb/ft of torque, but this isn’t the replacement for the P1, and nor is it the Ultimate Series three-seat hypercar McLaren plan.
Instead, it joins the P1, P1 GTR (both long sold out) and the yet to arrive BP23 as the McLaren Ultimate Series range.
Mike Flewitt, McLaren CEO, said:
The McLaren Senna is a car like no other: the personification of McLaren’s motorsport DNA, legalised for road use but designed and developed from the outset to excel on a circuit.
Every element of this new Ultimate Series McLaren has an uncompromised performance focus, honed to ensure the purest possible connection between driver and machine and deliver the ultimate track driving experience in the way that only a McLaren can.
The McLaren Senna costs £750,000, but McLaren say they’ve sold them all already.
