Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations has built a State Review LWB Range Rover Hybrid for the Queen so she’s on show when attending special events.
Land Rover has a long history of building State Review cars for The Queen, going back to the 1953 Land Rover Series 1. But the last was a 2002 Range Rover. But now, in her 90th year, The Queen gets to play with Land Rover’s very latest technology with the arrival of a brand spanking new Range Rover Hybrid LWB State Review.
HMQ has been out playing with her new toy, presenting New Colours to the Royal Welsh regiment in Cardiff (above), with the new State Review Range Rover doing its stuff and making sure one and all get a good view of The Queen.
And actually, the hybrid take on the new Range Rover is the perfect choice for a State Review vehicle.
Land Rover make no real pretence that the Hybrid Rangie is some sort of magic combination of electric car and diesel, but use the 47bhp electric motor to boost the 3.0 litre diesel engine to give similar performance to the V8 diesel, with the electric motor adding more torque too.
But with a gentle foot, the Range Rover can trickle around on just its electric motor, which is perfect for the State Review Rangie when it’s close to bystanders; it’ll be silent and free of exhaust fumes.
Although we have a sneaky feeling The Queen would probably be happier with her original 1953 Land Rover Series 1.
