New Subaru Forester teased ahead of New York debut
The tease starts for the new Subaru Forester as Subaru reveals a single darkened photo of the new Forester’s rear lights ahead of a debut at the 2018 New York Motor Show.
It’s five years since the current Subaru Forester arrived – and a couple of years since it got a bit of a mid-life facelift – but now it’s time for a new Forester, and it will debut at the New York Motor Show at the end of the month.
So with a debut planned, Subaru are doing what we expect, and have delivered a ‘tease’ for the new Forester, although the photo – a single darkened image of the new Forester’s tail light and badge – doesn’t exactly give the game away.
But this is Subaru, so it’s unlikely the new Forester will stray too far from the current car, with styling which will evolve rather than be radically different, perhaps influenced somewhat by the latest Impreza but still clearly a Forester.
Under the skin the new Forester will still be more able than the new crop of soft-road SUVs, and will be built on the latest Subaru Global Platform, just like the Impreza, although we’re expecting Subaru to drop the diesel engine option.
For the UK, that would mean just a single 2.0 litre petrol and the XT Turbo, so it seems highly likely we’ll be getting a hybrid Forester joining, all with Subaru’s CVT gearbox.
