Volkswagen Touareg 48 Hour Test Drive
Volkswagen has decided to offer 48-hour test drives of the Touareg SUV in the UK to prove to potential buyers what a great SUV it is.
Back in the summer, Volkswagen decided the best way to generate interest in the electric e-Golf was to give potential buyers a properly decent amount of time to play with it. So they launched 48-hour test drives for the e-Golf.We’re assuming that little outing was quite a success, because VW has now decided that anyone fancying a Touareg can now do exactly the same and go and play properly for 48 hours too with their flagship SUV. And that’s probably a good idea.
The Touareg is a better car – certainly in it latest iteration – than its ever been, and it does have very similar underpinnings to the Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga. Which is a plus.
With prices starting at just a shade under £50k, the Touareg isn’t exactly cheap, but there are some appealing models, especially if you don’t have any real objection to diesel engines,
Against all common sense, and post-Dieselgate, VW decided that what the Touareg really needs is a big V8 diesel, to add to the two 3.0 litre diesel Touaregs, and that arrived earlier this year boasting 419bhp and a massive 664lb/ft of torque and 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds. Although, sadly, it hasn’t found its way to the UK. There’s also a TSI petrol Touareg too.
VW’s Brian Luckie said:
The Touareg is a car that can rise to any challenge – it’s comfortable, capacious, capable, and quick. A 48-hour test drive allows customers to find all of this out for themselves, and to get to know all of the luxuries and technology that the Touareg has to offer.
By giving customers the opportunity to live with a Touareg for two whole days, we’re hoping they will get to bond with our flagship car. We’re confident that once the 48 hours are over and the car is returned, customers will be convinced by its skillset.
