This is the new Volkswagen Golf Mk8
The new Volkswagen Golf Mk8 is due to be revealed this evening, but official images have leaked out ahead of VW’s planned reveal in Wolfsburg.
Volkswagen may have eschewed a big launch for the Mk8 Golf at the Frankfurt Motor Show in favour of the new Teacher’s Pet ID 3 EV, but they’re due to put that right this evening with a launch event for the new Golf in Wolfsburg. But the German press have put a bit of a spoke in that event by publishing official photos of the Mk8 Golf a bit too early.
To no one’s great surprise, the Mk8 Golf is very much an evolutionary design, certainly on the outside, and still very much ‘Golf’ despite new slim headlights, new grille, new bonnet shape and bumper profile.
But it’s the interior where the new Golf sets itself apart from the current Golf, with buttons forsaken for touchpads and screens, with a digital instrument cluster and a (non-integrated) infotainment screen in the centre.
Despite very similar looks to the current Golf, the Mk8 Gold grows in size – with a big increase in wheelbase for a more commodious interior – and will come with a wide range of three and four-cylinder engines, plug-in hybrid but no EV (atht’s now the realm of the ID 3).
Full details on the new VW Golf will arrive this evening.
