Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition - more horses
Vauxhall has taken the wraps off the hottest Corsa yet – the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring edition – with 202bhp. On sale in May.
Vauxhall has decided it’s time to turn up the wick on the Corsa VXR, so they’ve had a fiddle and a tweak and managed to coax 202bhp out of its 1.6-litre 4-pot turbo. That’s an extra 13bhp.
It’s not just the power that’s been increased, so has the twist; the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition gets an extra 11lb/ft of torque to take it up to 207lb/ft.
Vauxhall has fitted a new stainless steel exhaust sports exhaust with reduced back pressure and had a play with the ECU to coax the extra out, which on a bigger car may not sound much but on something the size of the Corsa should be noticeable.
On paper the extra oomph certainly makes a difference, with the 0-60mp dropping to 6.5 seconds from the regular VXR’s 6.9, and a top speed goes up to 143mph.
To help with the extra power – and to justify a ‘Nurburgring’ moniker – Vauxhall has dropped the ride height by 20mm/15mm and Bilstein has developed bespoke springs and dampers. There are also a set of Brembos that come in 30% lighter than the regular VXR and a mechanical LSD.
Cosmetically, the Corsa VXR Nurburgring gets a set of alloys finished in high0gloss grey, stainless steel dual exhaust and a pile of Nurburgring logos. Inside there are Recaros in the front and more ‘Nurburgring’ logos. There’s also the choice of a couple of new paint jobs – Grasshopper and Henna.
Vauxhall say sales will start in late May at £22,295.
Which is a shocking lot of money for a Corsa. Even a Vauxhall Corsa with 202bhp.
