Volkswagen Up! GTI UK Prices and Specs announced
The Volkswagen Up! GTI was revealed in Spring 2017, and it’s finally about to go on sale in the UK with prices starting from £13,750 for the three-door Up! GTI. A five-door is also available at £14,150.
Things have moved on a bit since the original Golf GTI arrived to offer some hot hatch performance, and the current Golf GTI is a country mile away from the little GTI we first fell in love with. But for those who hanker after simpler times, and smaller cars, VW reckon the new Up! GTI – revealed last Spring – is effectively the spiritual successor to the original Golf GTI, offering a car wieldy enough to zip through cities and offer a bit of fun in the process.
Starting at £13,750 for the three-door – a bit less than we’d expected – the Up! GTI gets all the required cosmetic titivation to make it a VW GTI, from red highlights and tartan seats to 17″ Brands Hatch alloys and red brake callipers.
Spec is decent too including Air Con, Heated Seats, Infotainment and power mirrors, and VW has actually done work to make the Up! a bit more dynamic too.
Power comes from a 1.0 litre three-pot with 113bhp driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual ‘box, the McPherson struts at the front get tweaked, as does the torsion beam at the back, and the ride height drops by 15mm.
VW say the Up! GTI will get to 62mph in 8.8 seconds and on to 122mph, both figures better than the original Golf GTI, but a chunk down on competitors like the 500 Abarth.
The new Volkswagen Up! GTI goes on sale in the UK in February.
