To add to its list of awards, the Volvo XC40 has now won the 2019 China Design Car of the Year, beating off competition from 205 other cars.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we reported that Volvo’s sales grew by almost 12 per cent last month – and up by 14 per cent so far this year – as its strong lineup continues to attract buyers.
The strong performance is driven by sales of SUVs, with the XC60 the best seller and the XC90 doing well, both helped by sales of the very good Volvo XC40, with nearly 60k shifted so far this year.
That’s no surprise when you look at the gongs the XC40 has garnered already, including European Car of the Year, What Car? Car of the Year and more. And now there’s a new award to add to the list.
The Volvo XC40 has won the 2019 China Design Car of the Year which, a few years ago might not have been a big deal. But China is now the world’s biggest car market, so a gong for the Swedish (although China-owned) XC40 is going to be a big help.
The judges said:
The XC40 shows the essence of Nordic design, showing a very good three-dimensional sense with simple lines. The overall design is harmonious and young and energetic.
It’s exactly what Volvo wants to hear as it aims to bring a younger demographic in to the Volvo experience with the XC40.
