Volvo has revealed the Excellence Child Seat Concept, a take on the Lounge Console for the XC90 offering luxury travel accommodation for babies.

The Volvo XC90 is already proving a big hit, and Volvo are not just pitching it as a great family SUV, but also as a luxury chauffeur car with the XC90 Excellence and its Lounge Console option.

But a bit of sensible thinking by Volvo means that the Lounge Console Concept doesn’t need to stop at making pampered execs lives more cosseting, but can also be used to create the ultimate travel option for the children of yummy mummies.

Volvo say they started by asking themselves how they could make life easier for parents – and keep their little ones safe and sound in the XC90 – and then focused on making it as easy as possible to get a child in and out of a seat, making the journey comfortable, and coping with the endless amounts of ‘stuff’ carting a little one around entails.

Step forward the Excellence Child Seat Concept for the XC90.

Just like the Lounge Console, the Excellence Child Seat replaces the front passenger seat and incorporates a child seat that can be swiveled for easy entry and then locked in to place – rear facing – for the journey. Not only that, but the space under the seat can be used to store all the stuff baby needs – nappies, blankets, a change of clothes, bottles… – and the XC90’s heated cup holders can even be used to heat up a bottle.

Tisha Johnson, Volvo’s Chief Interior Concepts Designer, said:

We have been investigating the nature of progressive luxury for some time and we see a direct connection between luxury and emotional wellbeing. So we have taken the next step in redefining how the interior of a car can be used to suit our customers’ needs. We have always placed a great deal of importance on child safety, but this takes things to the next level.

Yet another reason, if you needed one, to buy the new XC90.
