The Volvo XC90 R-Design – Volvo’s sporty take on the new XC90 – goes on sale in the UK with sporty looks and more equipment. Costs from £49,785.

The Volvo XC-90 R-Design – the sporty take on Volvo’s very good XC-90 is now on sale in the UK, coming with sporty enhancements and extra equipment and joins the XC-90 range at prices from £49,975, with a choice of the D5 diesel, T6 petrol and T8 Twin Engine Hybrid.

Revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 2014, the XC-90 R-Design has taken more than a year to go on sale in the UK, but with the XC-90 already a runaway success it’s clear Volvo were concentrating on fulfilling their big order book before launching more models. But, as long as your pockets can live with starting prices of £50k, it’s been worth the wait.

Upgrades for the R-Design – which sits at the top of the XC-90 tree alongside the Inscription models, include 20″ diamond-cut alloys, silver door mirrors, a gloss black mesh grill and privacy glass, with the interior getting leather sports seats, 12.3″ driver’s information display, sports pedals, powered front seats, gearshift paddles, sports pedals, upgraded interior lighting and and R-Design key fob.

Also standard – as this is a sporty XC-90 – are Drive Mode settings and Adjustable Steering Force so you can choose the settings for the engine, gearbox, steering and, if you’ve specced it, the air suspension, to suit how you’re driving.
