Zoe Ball for Top Gear?
The Sunday papers claimed that Zoe Ball is going to join Chris Evans to host Top Gear, but Evans has taken to twitter to rubbish the claims.
Ever since it was revealed that Chris Evans is to take the reins of Top Gear – after Jeremy Clarkson was ‘let go’ after a fracas, joined by his co-costs Hammond and May – there has been speculation about who will join the Ginger one on TG.The early front runner seemed to be Jodie Kidd, especially after she was spotted several times in deep conversation with Evans. But Kidd ruled herself out of the running recently, so the press have been looking for a new candidate. Step forward Zoe Ball.
Radio and TV presenter Ball was put in the frame this weekend by the Sunday Mirror, with claims that she’d had a film test for Top Gear, and that the chemistry between her and Evans was so good producers realised they’d found the token female for ‘New’ Top Gear.
Unfortunately for the Sunday Mirror, Chris Evans has revealed on Twitter this morning that Zoe hasn’t even had a screen test. He said:
Hilariously inaccurate story in 2days paper. Re my good friend Zoe Ball excelling in Top Gear screen test. She hasn’t even been for one
— Chris Evans (@achrisevans) September 14, 2015
So that clears that up then. Well, maybe.
Although Evans states Zoe hasn’t had a screen test for Top Gear, he doesn’t say she’s not joining the team. We should also note that Evans was even more outspoken about the chances he would take over from Clarkson, making it absolutely clear he had no interest in the job.
Frankly, we’re sure the BBC want this speculation to run and run. And it will.
