Hyundai’s Genesis Essentia GT Concept
Hyundai has revealed the Genesis Essentia GT Concept as a look at the future of Genesis and previewing a future electric GT. And it looks rather like the Alfa Disco Volante.
Hyundai’s luxury arm, Genesis, is still struggling a bit to make its mark and take on other Asian luxury brands like Lexus and Infiniti. But if this new Genesis Essentia Gt Concept is anything to go by, they’re heading in a very appealing direction.Hyundai are being a bit vague on detail of the Essentia GT Concept’s powertrain, but it is fully electric and is powered by a high density battery pack. Whether that means the battery pack is based on, perhaps, future solid state batteries or just current higher density tech, we don’t know.
In terms of how it looks, the Essentia GT is an up to date interpretation of classic GTs, with a long bonnet, stubby tail and even a double bubble roof. We can’t help thinking it’s heavily influenced by the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante (below).

But although it pays more than a passing nod to classic cars – despite a trend developing for EVs, like the Jaguar I-Pace, to deliver a short bonnet design to make the most of no engine under the bonnet – the Genesis is very of the moment.
It features a dashboard which does still nod to the past, but with a digital dash which stretches the width of the cabin, has machine learning technology to set up both the car and your route, as well as fingerprint and facial recognition technology.
It does look like Hyundai are planning to deliver a production version of the Genesis Essentia GT in the next few years, and if it keeps the essence of the concept it looks a very good way forward.
