Alfa Romeo 8C based Disco Volante by Touring makes limited production

The Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante – a re-bodied Alfa Romeo 8C Concept – has been updated and will go in to limited production.

The Alfa Romeo 8C is a beautiful – if flawed – supercar from Alfa, made even more individual by by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera with their Alfa Disco Volante Concept in 2012.

That Concept – which arrived at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012 – has now been updated for 2013 and is being put in to limited production for those with deep pockets to indulge in an Alfa even more rare than the 8C itself.

The Disco Volante pays homage to the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante – based on the Alfa 1900 – and is built from aluminium and carbon fibre to keep weight in check, although under the skin remains pretty much Alfa 8C.

But that does mean a 4.7 litre V8 with 440bhp and 353lb/ft of torque, enough to get the Disco Volante to 62mph in 4.2 seconds, even if the handling is probably still going to be a bit wayward.

Touring Superleggera, a Milan based coachbuilding company, aren’t saying how much the Disco Volante will cost, although they do point out it takes 4.000 hours to build the Dico Volante from the starting point of the 8C. So it’s not going to be cheap.

Not do we know how many Disco Volantes Touring Superleggera are going to build; we’re guessing they’ll build as many as they get orders for.

Speaking of which, you’ll need to contact the factory in Milan if you want to put in an order, and wait six months from when Touring Superleggera get hold of the donor 8C.
