A Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II Shooting Brake – commissioned by the Who’s John Entwistle – is up for grabs at a Bonham’s auction.

Rolls Royce has never made an estate car – or Shooting Brake, as posh estates (and modern wannabes) tend to be badged – but that hasn’t stopped well-heeled owners from Maharajahs to rock stars turning Rolls Royces in to hunting and shooting transport for almost a hundred years.
The Ox had the Rolls turned in to a Shooting Brake by an unknown coachbuilders back in the 1980s to carry his Irish Wolfhounds, and when he died as a result of a bit to much nose candy his Rolls Royce Shooting Brake was bought by the current owner from Entwistle’s wife.
The new owner then sent it off to Coway Coachbuilders in Bolton (who managed to put their stamp on the chrome sill plates) for a complete re-furb, since when it’s enjoyed life as transport for grouse shooting on a Perthshire Estate and been cosseted in an air conditioned garage when it’s not being used.
Bonham’s are putting the Entwistle Silver Shadow Shooting Brake across the block on 7th September and reckon it will fetch £12-16,000.
Which seems very cheap for a bit of gentrified rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia.
