Lotus roll out daft teaser campaign for Lotus 3-Eleven
Lotus are teasing a new car – the Lotus 3-Eleven – in a rather odd tease campaign, implying the 3-Eleven’s debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this month.
There’s nothing Lotus does better than light, nimble and quick, and its last proper track-day car – the Lotus 2-Eleven – was certainly that. But now there’s a new track-day car on the way from Lotus – the Lotus 3-Eleven (no, it didn’t take long to come up with the name). We thought the 3-Eleven was unlikely to arrive until Frankfurt in the Autumn, but a slightly weird Lotus Twitter tease campaign is going on at the moment, with odd Tweeted photos – including a Lotus in a box (above), headlights in the dark and a stinger – and cryptic comments and hashtags like ‘ItsNotForYou and for #FOS too. Sow e’re assuming Goodwood will see its reveal.
Lotus aren’t being forthcoming with any details at the moment, but it’s fair to assume – given the 3-Eleven name – that it follows the same track-day ethos as the 2-Eleven.
But although Lotus don’t seem to want to deliver information yet, Autocar seem to have a bit of an inside line on information, proclaiming the 3-Eleven will weigh in around 800kg, get the 3.5 litre V6 from the Exige S with up to 420bhp, be able to get to 62mph in 3.0 seconds or less and do 180mph.
Not only that, but it will lap the Nurburgring at the same sort of rate as the latest hypercars – the likes of the 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 – but wiull cost around £70k, at least for the basic track-day version without options – more if you want goodies or want your 3-Eleven to be road legal.
It all sounds like a recipe for the perfect track-day car, and with the Festival of Speed just weeks away we’re hoping Lotus will stop playing silly games on Twitter and reveal some real information soon.
