Porsche 911 Turbo S (2010) revealed

Porsche has revealed the 2010 911 Turbo S - sales start May.

Porsche has revealed the 2010/2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S, with an extra 30bhp and a host of extras as standard. Price start at £123,623 and goes on sale May 2010.

Porsche has a habit of sticking the ‘S’ badge on the back of its Turbo cars as a Special Edition or run-out model. It did it with 993 and 996 911s, but this time the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo S is to be a stand-alone model at the top of the 911 tree. I suppose you could argue that it’s doing the same again, but with a couple of years of 997 production still to come it’s much more than a run-out model.

Porsche say the 911 Turbo S has been produced to meet customer demand for an ultimate 911 – but then 911 aficionados have always wanted more. And they do get it with the 911 Turbo S. Power is up by 30bhp to 530bhp, but Porsche say the extra horses have no impact on fuel economy. Probably true on the testing cycles, but you’ll still be lucky to see double figures if you cane it.

The power is driven through seven-speed PDK dual-clutch ‘box to all four wheels and you actually get proper paddle-shift instead of Porsche’s ‘Buttons’. You also get Porsche’s Traction Management system and Porsche’s Torque Vectoring system including a mechanical limited slip diff in the package.

Porsche has thrown quite a few of the toys in its box at the Turbo S, so you get the Sport Chrono package which includes Dynamic Engine Mounts and Launch Control. These toys do stiffen up the Turbo S which certainly helps with a 0-60mph of just over 3.1 seconds – 0.3 seconds faster than the regular 911 Turbo (official figure 0-62mph 3.3 seconds). Top speed is 195mph and the Turbo S hits 124mph (200kph) at just 10.8 seconds.

Other extras fitted as standard to the Turbo S include Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Dynamic Cornering Lights, Adaptive Sport Seats, 19″ RS alloys and twin-tone leather seats.

The Porsche 911 Turbo S will hit dealer showrooms in May, with the Coupe costing £123,623 and the Cabriolet £130,791.

Which is more than £700 per extra horse over the standard 911 Turbo.
