We take a look at what we can expect at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show / 2011 Detroit Motor Show / 2011 NAIAS
The Detroit Motor Show 2011 is upon us, with the press days starting tomorrow – 10th January – and the show opening up to Joe Public on Saturday 15th January.
Recent Detroit Motor Shows have been a bit of a let-down, with many car makers staying away as the world’s economies went in to meltdown. But car sales have recovered this year – a tad, anyway – and car makers are starting to adjust to the new car landscape.
So Detroit will see the return of absentees such as Porsche and we’re expecting to see as many as forty world premiers roll out in Motor City. Which, we hope, will make Detroit an interesting event to kick off the New Year.
We’ll be covering all the news from the NAIAS as it happens, and we’ll do our best to update this page as we run new stories. But you can always get to the latest stuff by checking out the NAIAS 2011 category which lists all the show’s stories.

The new Audi A6 will get rolled out to the public in Detroit.

BMW 6 Series Convertible

BMW X3 (2011) M Sport Package
Not really sure we can claim the M Sport Package for the X3 to be a new BMW. But BMW probably will.
Buick Verano
Not a car that will probably cross the radar of the average European buyer, but it’s actually an Astra with a boot.
Cadillac CTS-V Race
Yes, Cadillac are intending taking their M5 challenger – the Cadillac CTS-V – off to the races
Chevrolet Sonic
Another little Yank-Tank. This one is in fact the North American version of the new Chevrolet Aveo.
Chrysler 300 C
The car so beloved by UK Chauffeur companies makes its debut.
Ford C-Max
North America gets introduced to a European Minivan

Mercedes C Class Coupe
We had leaked photos of the replacement for the CLC last week, so it’s a fair bet it will arrive in Detroit
MINI Paceman
A motor show without yet another MINI wouldn’t seem right. Think of the MINI Paceman as a MINI Countryman Coupe and you won’t go far wrong.
Porsche 918 Coupe
This could either be a coupe version of the 918 Spyder – a new Carrera GT – or a race version of the same. We’ll see.
Toyota Prius MPV
Toyota’s Prius MPV – the first of a new Prius family – arrives at Detroit
Toyota Prius Concept – The Prius-C
When this was shown to Toyota dealers a week or two back it was referred to as the Prius-C. Which we’re assuming is a compact Prius.
VW NMS
This sounds as boring as the pre-launch moniker – which stands for ‘New Mid-Size Sedan’ – and is VW’s replacement for the Passat in North America.
That’s it for now, but we’ll be reporting all the latest news, gossip and launches from Detroit in the coming week or so.
