2011 Peugeot 308 Facelift - sans big gob
Peugeot reveals a new-look Peugeot 308 for 2011 with a new nose and a new model – the Peugeot 308 e-HDi microhybrid diesel. On sale in May
When we reviewed the Peugeot RCZ last summer, Claire commented that it was a shame the RCZ had come along before Peugeot actually got on with dumping the big-gob front end. And she was right, but at least that roll-out of a new, more refined look is underway with the reveal of the 2011 Peugeot 308.
That bulbous and unattractive nose has gone the same way as Tom Jones’ 1960s big hooter, to be replaced by a slimline and elegant new look. That’s the 308 – not Sir Tom – getting the better looking nose.
So bulky was that old nose that simply replacing it with the new nose and bumper has shaved 25kg off the weight of the 2011 308. That’s a bag of spuds in old money. Which is good, especially as it seems to be just about the only exterior change.
The new Peugeot 308 will be available as Hatchback, CC and SW and comes in Access, SR, Active and Allure trim levels. There’ll also be a new Eco model – the Peugeot 308 e-HDi microhybrid diesel. The USP of the e-HDi is its CO2 emissions which dip to 98g/km, meaning free VED and congestion charge.
All engines are now Euro 5 compliant – as they have to be. Choice is four petrol engines – 1.4 litre VTi 98, 1.6 litre VTi 120, 1.6 litre THP 156 and 1.6 litre THP 200 (GT Hatchback & CC models only). Opt for an oil-burner and you can choose between 1.6 litre HDi FAP 92, 1.6 litre e-HDi FAP 112, 2.0 litre HDi FAP 150 and 2.0 litre HDi FAP 163.
Peugeot say the 2011 308 will start at £15,245 and have a spec which betters the current 308, with all models featuring AirCon, ESP, ABS, EBFD, EBA, electric windows, remote locking with deadlocks and six airbags.
On sale in May after a debut at Geneva.
