2013 Range Rover caught on video
Land Rover are continuing testing of the 2013 Range Rover, and we have video of the new Range Rover on and around the Nurburgring.
Just last month we had spy shots of the new Range Rover – due as a 2013 car – as it ploughed round roads in the Midlands. And now we can go one better, with the new Range Rover caught on video in Germany.
James May won’t be pleased, but Land Rover are busy doing what every car maker, even makers of high-end SUVs, do these days, and that’s plough endlessly round the Nurburgring to tune the ride and handling.
But we don’t think May has to worry too much on that score with the 2013 Range Rover as it’s unlikely to have the hardest, most road-focused ride in the world.
That said, the XJ-derived underpinnings of the next generation Range Rover will undoubtedly move the big Land Rover up a notch or three in the handling stakes.
Although its easy for the wish to be father to the thought, the Range Rover in this video does seem to be a bit lighter on its feet; it doesn’t seem to roll as much as the current model and it seems quite lively off the mark. But then it should, this particular 2013 Range Rover is running Land Rover’s supercharged V8 with something around 500bhp, and we know it’s going to be massively lighter than the current model.
Looking through the disguise, and with the benefit of pause and all-round angles of view, it’s easy to confirm that the 2013 Range Rover has echoes of the Evoque in its roofline, and that it’s a chunk bigger than the already big current Range Rover.
The rear doors – even with the liberal application of camouflage panels, paint and a couple of rolls of gaffer tape – are particularly huge compared to the current car, heralding a Range Rover more easily suited to playing chauffeur car to the rich and famous than today’s Range Rover.
What we now want is video of the new Range Rover with a bit less disguise. Believe it or not, the car in this video is actually brown.
