The Mercedes CLS was the car that really started the whole 4-door coupe craze that’s swept across car manufacturing in recent years, and now a new facelifted CLS is about to be revealed – probably at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of the month.
The MultiBeam LED headlights on the new CLS are made up of 24 individual LEDs that are illuminated individually to provide drivers with the clearest vision, without causing glare or blinding for oncoming drivers.
Similar to the LED headlights in the new S-Class (and Audi’s Matrix LED setup), the right and left headlights work independently, as do all 24 LED lights which can be on or off according to conditions, with a camera on the windscreen providing in formation to the system up to 100 times a second.
The new MultiBeam System can also use the SatNav to create the best lighting solution for upcoming bends, and when on a clear straight they illuminate up to 485 metres ahead, some 20 per cent more than normal high beams.
Changes for the 2015 CLS, apart from the MultiBeam headlights, are likely to be familiar from the new C-Class and S-Class, with a revised interior, new grill and new bumpers marking out the 2015 model.
The 2015 Mercedes CLS is expected to debut at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of this month before going on sale at the end of the year.
