The Jaguar XE is getting a raft of updates for 2016, including the arrival of a part-time all-wheel drive option and 10.2″ InControl Touch Pro infotainment.
The new Jaguar XE has only been with is five minutes, but Jaguar are already improving the offering with new updates for 2016, the most interesting of which is an all-wheel drive option. In the UK, the AWD option will only be available with the 187bhp version of the 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel, although buyers in the US – where the US 2017 MY XE debuted – will get the AWD option on the 335bhp Supercharged V6.
The new AWD system on offer is a part time one, so the XE’s RWD setup predominates, with the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) sensing when there’s a loss of grip and transferring power to the front wheels too. There’s also Jaguar’s Adaptive Surface Response to modify traction as an additional grip aid.
There is a weight and economy penalty for the AWD system though, with the XE AWD weighing 110kg more than the XE RWD and being less parsimonious – economy and emissions drop from 67.3mpg and 109g/km in the RWD car to 60.6mpg and 123g/km in the AWD car.
But it’s not just an AWD option for 2016, as the XE also gets Jaguar’s latest InControl Touch Pro infotainment system as an option, which is more responsive, looks better and adds in intelligent Navigation, Apple Watch and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
