It looks like the next Subaru WRX STI – due in 2016 – will get the stunning looks of the WRX Concept, according to Subaru chief designer Mamoru Ishii.

Subaru fans were delighted that the new Subaru WRX STI – revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January – was actually going to make it to the UK, and at a price that isn’t too barking at £29k.
The WRX Concept was everything we hoped the Scooby could be, with form being allowed to come to the fore rather than being a result of function, and making the WRX far more appealing.
But that disappointment could be short-lived as Subaru’s chief designer, Mamoru Ishii, has told Motoring that the WRX Concept’s stunning looks will play a big part in the next generation WRX STI, due in 2016.
Mamoru Ishii said:
Yes, we have taken the next-generation Impreza’s design in a new direction that we are sure will excite the marketplace.
We are planning to give the lower section below the hip line a wider, more substantial stance and narrow up the roof section.
All of which sounds very much like the WRX Concept.

Puhleeeeeeze, Subaru! Build this! Make mine with at LEAST 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. I would prefer a sequential shift gearbox, or a performance-oriented auto,… well-sorted 4-wheel drive, thank you, and electronically adjustable suspension. Now,… if you can, also, keep it under 3,200 lbs, and I think we’ll have a winner. Even better,… add another dollop of power, say,… 50hp, or so, and you’ll pry me out of my BMW and corvette. And, I will love you and pet you, and stroke your fur, backwards,… (whoa! gettin’ a little wierd, there!),… okay, maybe not,…, but, I WILL buy your car!
