The 2017 Bentley Continental Supersports has been revealed as the most powerful production Bentley to date, boasting 700bhp from its W12 engine.
A couple of days ago we had a tease video from Bentley trailing the arrival of the ‘Most Extreme’ Bentley yet, but precious other details.
Our moles reckoned it would be a new version of the Continental GT Speed, effectively a souped-up GT Speed with around 700bhp, as a swansong for the current Continental GT. And that’s exactly what the new Bentley is.
Revealed this morning, the 2017 Bentley Continental GT Supersports ism’t the stripped-out take on the GT the original GT Supersports was, but a suitably fettled and titivated GT Speed with an enormous 700bhp and a whopping, tear a planet of its axis, 750lb/ft of torque.
Thankfully, the GT Supersports comes with the normal GT four-wheel drive to put all that power and torque down, and it gets the torque vectoring we saw on the Continental GT3 R for more dynamic handling. It all adds up to 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds (the convertible is 0.3s slower) and on to 209mph (205mph).
As well as the extra power and clever handling stuff, the GT Supersports also gets stiffer, lower suspension, carbon ceramic brakes and lightweight 21″ forged alloys.
Visual tweaks are not too over the top, with new bumpers – front and back – with carbon fibre splitter and diffuser, darkened lights, a set of butch sills, bonnet vents and black where you’d normally expect chrome.
Inside, the Supersports boasts the first tri-tone in this generation of the Continental GT (similar to the tri-colour interior on the Flying Spur we reviewed), chequered carbon fibre fascia panels, Supersports emblem stitching and bespoke Supersports steering wheel and gear lever.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Bentley Chairman, said:
The Supersports name is legendary at Bentley. From the very first Supersports of the 1920s, to the Continental Supersports of 2009 – and now with the third iteration of this iconic model – it is a name which excites, impassions and thrills. Only Bentley could create a car which blends immense performance and unrivalled luxury in this way.
The 2017 Continental GT Supersports is now on sale at Bentley’s UK dealers, but it’s not bargain basement.
The Supersports Coupe will cost from £212,500 and the Supersports Convertible from £233,800. First customer cars should arrive by Easter.
