2017 Jaguar XF Sportbrake CONFIRMED
A new Jaguar XF Sportbrake has been confirmed for 2017 by Jaguar at the Paris Motor Show, and it could include an extreme SVR version.
We had lots of angst from Jaguar lovers earlier in the year when Ian Callum declared that not only would there be no XE Estate, but there would be no XF Sportbrake in the 2016 model. But he was misquoted. The ‘No XE Sportbrake’ stands, but Jaguar are delivering a Sportbrake in the latest version of the XF, and have confirmed it at the Paris Motor Show, and delivered a photo of the 2017 Jaguar XF Sportbrake (above) – albeit camouflaged – to prove it.
What to expect from the XF Sportbrake isn’t a particularly difficult question to answer, as in all the ways that matter to the bulk of buyers it will be exactly what the last generation Sportbrake offered but based on the new XF.
For the mainstream, that means 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel and petrol engines, a 3.0 litre diesel and a 3.0 litre supercharged petrol. But there could well be more.
So far, the new Jaguar XF only gets a 4WD option on the 2.0 litre diesel (which is a real shame), and there’s no V8 option anymore. But that could change.
It does seem Jaguar are planning an SVR take on the XF Estate to go head to head with the Audi RS6 Avant, which could mean an XF Estate sporting something close to 600bhp (the current XFR-S gets 542bhp) and with 4WD. Which wouldn’t really make Jaguar any money, but would be one hell of a halo car for the XF range.
The expectation is that the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake will arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2017.
