2017 Land Rover Discovery caught on video
The new Land Rover Discovery – expected to debut later in 2016 – has been caught on video out testing. We don’t expect it to be called the Discovery 5.
The latest take on the Land Rover Discovery – which isn’t expected to carry the logical Discovery 5 badge – seems like it’s been on its way for a very long time, although it now looks likely to debut later this year (perhaps at the Paris Motor Show) as Land Rover almost completes the updating of its range (just the Defender to go).
With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see the new Discovery caught on video (albeit very briefly) as LR work to shake down the new Disco ahead of its debut.
What we can see in the brief video clip, despite the camouflage, is a new Discovery which looks to have taken the more rounded look from the Discovery Vision Concept in 2014 forward, creating a Disco that still looks familiar, but creates a strong family them with the Discovery Sport.
With a new lighter platform, the Discovery is expected to grow a bit from the current model, but be lighter, offer much better accommodation (especially for the rearmost passengers) and move the Discovery’s interior up a notch or two.
But Land Rover has to be clever to stop a new, more refined Discovery stealing sales from the Range Rover, so the Discovery, just like the Sport, will be marketed as Land Rover’s ‘Leisure’ range, offering practicality as well as luxury, and lots of new technology to make life easier for driver and passengers.
Engines at launch – if the new Discovery does arrive this year as expected – are likely to be the new Ingenium diesels, and the new Ingenium petrols we expect to launch with the new 2.0 litre F-Type.
They will be joined initially by Land Rover’s current 3.0 litre diesels, but that will change when the new Ingenium six-cylinder engines start to arrive, probably later in 2017.
With the likely reveal of the new Discover getting closer, we can expect more on exactly what’s on offer in the coming months
