2017 Land Rover Discovery gets Intelligent seats
Land Rover has given the 2017 Discovery Intelligent back seats, and have used Bear Grylls to demonstrate the ability to move the seats remotely.
The last main plank of Land Rover’s ‘new’ models arrives this month with the reveal of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery, finally completing the extensive overhaul of JLR’s Land Rover offerings, some eight years after Tata took control of the ailing Jaguar Land Rover.True, there is still a new Defender to come, but the Defender hasn’t been a ‘Showroom’ Land Rover for a generation or three, and although JLR has big plans for a range of Defender models, you couldn’t exactly call it a core product just yet. A core definer of the marque, yes, but not a core sales product.

So the arrival of the new Discovery completes the new model range of Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery Sport (as a Freelander replacement) and Range Rover Evoque, although it’s likely there will be more variants spun off each of the models in the coming years.
We’ve already seem the first photo of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery, but this wouldn’t be JLR unless they dragged a reveal out and threw in a bit of drama to demonstrate a key ability or two. Step forward a sky diving Bear Grylls.
The intrepid Mr Grylls has been roped in to demonstrate Land Rover’s new Intelligent seats in the new Discovery, seats which can be configured through the touchscreen, buttons in the boot and C-pillar, and remotely from an App.
They could have got Bear to sit in his drawing room setting up the Disco’s seats for his next adventure, but LR though it would be far more effective to set up the seats as Bear was falling from a plane. So that’s what we get.
We’re not sure how many more titbits of Discover goodness Land Rover will throw out ahead of the actual reveal – and a debut in Paris – but there’s a fighting chance that Bear Grylls moving his Discovery seats whilst sky diving won’t be the last.
