The 2020 Skoda Octavia will debut on 11 November
Skoda has release most of the details of the new Octavia ahead of its debut on 11 November, including new engines and two hybrid options.
We had a tease for the 2020 Skoda Octavia last week, and it looked slick and appealing. But then it was a design sketch with more than a splash of artistic license. Now, as Skoda reveals a raft of details of the new Octavia – Skoda’s Golf-under-the-skin – we do get a camouflaged photo which makes it clear the design will be rather more conservative than the tease sketch. Which is not exactly a shock.
But what Skoda has done in this ‘tease’ is deliver pretty much all we need to know about the new Octavia, short of being able to see the actual car.
The deign is clearly evolutionary – as is the new Golf – and a bit bigger than the current Octavia, and that means more room inside, especially in the back, and in the boot, new steering wheel, new centre console, new dashboard, new seats, HUD, new 10″ virtual cockpit with four layouts and 10″ infotainment screen with streaming services and Smartlink+ technology.
Under the bonnet there’s now shift-by-wire for the DSG and a raft of TDI and TSI engines, plug-in hybrids and mild hybrids, and as well as a standard suspension offering there’s also a lowered sport option adn a raised ‘Rough Road’ option too.
Petrol engines include a 1.0 litre and 1.5 litre TSI mild hybrids with 48V system and DSG (but without the 48V system with a manual ‘box) and a 2.0 litre TSI with 4WD and DSG. There is also a 1.4 litre TSI plug-in hybrid option with either 201bhp or 242bhp.
On the diesel front the sole engine option is a 2.0 litre TDI, available with outputs of 113bhp, 148bhp and 197bhp with twin-dosing AdBlue to reduce NOx by around 80 per cent compared to the previous generation diesels.
The new 2020 Skoda Octavia – and photos – will arrive officially on 11 November.
