Porsche seem close to announcing that the Porsche 918 Spyder is to go in to production at €500,000.
It would seem that the Porsche 918 Spyder will cost €500,000. That is assuming Porsche produce their Carrera GT for the eco-age. But as the man from Porsche said, “…Porsche has never shown a concept car that didn’t go in to production”.
The price tag comes via Bloomberg who quote a couple of sources with ‘Direct Knowledge’. And the price point adds up. The Carrera GT was a bit less than that. The new Ferrari Enzo is likely to be a touch more. So it fits in to Porsche’s price plan quite nicely.
It seems that Porsche already has more than enough ‘Expressions of Interest’ to justify production of the 918 Spyder (they had 900 back in April – they said they needed 1,000). And Porsche need to be in the game with a new raft of hypercars expected to hit showrooms in the next couple of years.
We will have the new BMW M1, the new Ferrari Enzo (Ferrari F70), the Lamborghini Urus and the new McLaren F1. It is unthinkable that Porsche would miss out on being a part of the new hypercar round and the 918 Spyder – especially at €500k – would be very strong competition.
Don’t think it will be much longer before the Porsche 918 Spyder is confirmed for production.
