A new Porsche Carrera at the Detroit Motor Show
Porsche are intending taking something ‘Spectacular’ to the Detroit Motor Show in January. Could it be a new Porsche Carrera GT based on the 918 Spyder?
Porsche has been absent from the Detroit Motor Show for four years, but is planning a return to next month’s show with a bang, according to Porsche spokesman Hans- Gerd Bode. “We’ll have something spectacular to show there,” said Herr Bode. “You’ll have to wait and be surprised.”
So what has Porsche got up its sleeve, we wonder? To take the ‘Specatacular’ bit of the quote you would expect the surprise to be very much something at the top end. If that’s the case, perhaps Porsche has decided to shove a naturally aspirated V10 in to the 918 Spyder and create a new Porsche Carrera GT?.
On the other hand, we could see the much anticipated, 21st century Porsche 928. Based on the Panamera this would be a two-door coupe, as we reported in April last year. Or we could see a convertible Panamera, as we reported just over a year ago.
That covers the high-end stuff, but we could see Porsche’s version of the VW Bluesport making an appearance – a new entry-level roadster to sit below the Cayman/Boxster – after VW boss Martin Winterkorn made it clear earlier this year that Porsche were considering the Porsche BlueSport Roadster. Perhaps even badged as Porsche 356D?
Final possibility is the baby Porsche Cayenne – the Porsche Cajun. We know that’s now been given the go-ahead, but we don’t really see it’s arrival as spectacular.
We think the clever money’s on a new Carrera GT based on the 918 Spyder chassis.
