The new Mercedes CLA – the swoopy coupe based on the new A Class – will cost from £24,355 in the UK with a choice of Sport or AMG Sport trim.

Mercedes gave a quick flash of their cool new A Class Coupe and then whipped it off to the Berlin Fashion Week for a proper debut, clearly showing that Mercedes think the new CLA a style statement as much as a car.
And now, if you want to make a style statement with the good looking CLA (a car Mercedes call ‘Cool’) you can, with the CLA now on sale in the UK.
To start there are just two engine options available – the 1.6 litre petrol CLA 180 and the 2.1 litre diesel CLA 220 CDi – and just two trim levels – Sport or AMG Sport.
Both trim levels get a decent set of toys as standard, including Attention Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, Active Park ASsist, Bluetooth, AUX and USB, pre-wiring for Becker Map Pilot, Climate, auto wipers and twin chrome exhausts pipes.
The Sport trim comes with comfort suspension (is that oxymoronic on a ‘Sport’ model?), 18″ alloys, black grille with silver louvre, leather and cloth Sports seats and ‘sporty’ body styling with chrome trim.
The AMG Sport CLA gets Sport suspension, 18″ AMG wheels, the AMG diamond grill, flat-bottomed steering wheel, Sports seats in nappa leather and Dinamica (microfibre), Privacy glass, bi-xenons and a proper AMG bodykit with sill extensions, front and rear aprons, black door mirrors and beltline strip.
The options list includes stuff like the Exclusive Pack (£1970 for Sport, £1640 for AMG Sport) which adds fake leather on the dash, leather seats with lumbar, floor mats, heated front seats and velour mats and for an extra chunk of change you can have a colour other than Jupiter Red and Cirrus White by opting for designo Magno Polar Silver at £1,480, or designo Patagonia Red at £1,790.
The Mercedes CLA 180 Sport costs £24,335 and the CLA 220 CDI Sport £29,355. Opting for the AMG Sport adds £2200 to the price with either engine.

Yep, that is pretty horrible, looks great at a hatch but naaaaa as a coupe!

So that’s about 3 grand more for the CLA than the A-Class, no CLA 200 or 250 and no sign of the CLA 45 AMG either.
I suppose they have to start somewhere.
