MINI Clubvan Camper, Countryman All4 Camp & Cowley Caravan make an April Fool a reality

MINI has revealed caravanning concepts for the Clubvan and Countryman and a Cowley Caravan as they bring to life a 2012 April Fool.

We had to look at the date when we had a press release in from MINI telling us about the Campervan specials they’d created for the Clubvan and Clubman and a new towable Mini Cowley Caravan.

That’s because in 2012 MINI revealed almost exactly the same range of camping toys for the MINI range, but they did it as an elaborate April Fool.

We didn’t run the story at the time (a couple of car maker April Fools is enough for any year) but it rang a bell when the news came in today, and sure enough MINI used the Cowley Caravan and a remarkably similar ‘Swindon Roof Top’ tent in their April Fool.

The Cowley Caravan is almost exactly the same – it’s just an official MINI Concept now – and is a bit wider than the MINI, has an arched roofline, two bunks, weighs less than 300kg and comes complete with a two-ring gas burning stove.

The Clubvan Camper is a single occupant (or two very friendly ones) campervan built on the MINI Clubvan and comes with an extendible kitchen area, cooker, fridge and a built in TV. It also gets a big sunroof and extra storage space.

Finally there’s the Countryman All4 Camp that offers a tent for two on the roof and can also be attached to a regular Mini or Clubman.

We’re really at a loss to know why MINI has recycled these April Fools in to a proper concept. Maybe the Germans have a fool’s day in July we don’t know about.

Or maybe the heat’s got to them.
