Audi has been playing at recreating the original Audi quattro for a few years now, but this Audi Sport Quattro Concept looks the most convincing and the most likely to make production.
Inside, Audi has gone for a (refreshingly) new take on the Audi interior with cleaner lines, lots of carbon fibre and four seats.
But it’s under the skin the Quattro Sportt make the biggest statement, with a twin-turbo V8, electric motor and liquid-cooled lithium-ion batteries.
The V8 produces a very healthy 553bhp and 516lb/ft of torque all on its own, but the electric motor is good for an additional 148bhp and another 295lb/ft of torque, fed to all four wheels through and eight-speed automatic gearbox with a sport diff on the back axle.
That’s enough for Audi to claim a 0-62mph of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 191mph, but thanks to stuff like cylinder deactivation, stop-start and the ability to drive in EV mode for up to 30 miles, the Sport Quattro comes with claims of official economy numbers of 113mpg and 59g/km – which will make the Sport Quattro a great deal for company car drivers BIK payments.
The Audi Sport quattro will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
