The trio of hypercars currently vying for the title of the ultimate supercar – McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder – have all taken similar – but different – routes to performance, although they’ve all ended up with remarkably similar statistics.
Performance from 0-62mph is just 2.6 seconds (2.8 seconds without the Weissach Package), 124mph is reached in 7.2 seconds (0.5s quicker) and 186mph in 19.9 seconds (2.1 s quicker).
The additional tweaks to the 918 Spyder also see improvements in performance when the 918 is running in pure EV mode, with 0-62mph possible in 6.2 seconds and just 6.1 seconds with the Weissach Package.
And although real world owners will never achieve it, the 918 Spyder comes complete with official economy of 94mpg with the Weissach Package fitted (91mpg without) and emissions of 70g/km (72g/km without).
They’re impressive figures and something Ferrari and McLaren will struggle to match, but whether they’re good enough to encourage 918 buyers to fork out £678k remains to be seen.

Chris says
The McLaren P1 has unofficially done the Nurburgring in 6 minutes 47 seconds. Officially, all they have said is that it’s under 7 minutes.
I don’t think the Porsche will beat the P1 around the ring.
