We’ve had a few spats between Mercedes and Jaguar of late, with Jaguar poking fun at Mercedes Magic Body Control chickens and Mercedes retaliating with a bit of artwork proclaiming cat-like reflexes aren’t enough.
With a 5.5 litre turbo V8 churning out 577bhp and 663lb/ft of torque, the big Mercedes Coupe can get to 62mph in 4.3 seconds, and if you want to get the power down properly you can also opt for the four-wheel-drive 4MATIC option.
There’s also some very clever tech on board as standard and the option of Mercedes Cornering Tilt Function which uses Magic Body Control to ‘lean’ the AMG in to the corners for greater stability.
Mercedes has commissioned a poem from Betty Stewart as the voiceover for the S 63 AMG Coupe video:
Darkness has a companion tonight.
Small creatures prick ears and tremble with fright.
A sleek velvet phantom is making its way
through shadows, eyes gleaming. It´s searching for prey.Masterful strides on dark forest tracks.
The prince of the jungle is poised to attack.
His muscles a-ripple, his heart pumping fast
the spectre, he´s ready, his appetite vast.Feline musk impregnates the air.
Razor-sharp teeth are suddenly bared.
Like lightning he pounces, like thunder his roar
a sound full of power, great might to the fore.Darkness´ embrace caresses the cat.
The growl is replaced, a purr in its stead.
All sated the phantom is slinking away
As dawn´s pearly light prepares a new day.
So, is the new Mercedes S 63 AMG Coupe the biggest cat in the Jungle? Let’s see what Jaguar has to say.
