The regular MINI range has been extended with the arrival of the new MINI Cooper SD in 3-door guise with the 168bhp 2.0 litre diesel engine.

When the new 2014 MINI Hatch pricing was revealed back in March, the range consisted of the MINI One, One D, Cooper, Cooper D and Cooper SD. But no sign of the Cooper SD.
Oddly, MINI managed to launch the new 5-door MINI Hatch complete with a Cooper SD version last month, but at least they’ve now managed to catch up on the original 3-door too.
An appealing option for company car drivers, or anyone who does big mileage, the new MINI Cooper SD gets the same 2.0 litre diesel as the 5-door with 168 bhp and 265 lb/ft of torque, which is enough to get the Cooper SD to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds (7.2s with the optional auto ‘box) and yet give official economy of 68.9 mpg.
The Cooper SD gets the Cooper S body treatment to look more sporty – including a bonnet scoop and twin exhausts – but there is a price to pay.
At £19,450 the new Cooper SD is £800 more than the Cooper S and slower too, but if you do do big miles – or pay BIK, the SD is worth the extra.
