New 2015 Hyundai i20 revealed – debuts at Paris Motor Show

The new Hyundai i20 has been revealed in a pair of design sketches ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show, showing an i20 with a more purposeful look.

The Hyundai i20 is a perfectly decent supermini that manages to hold its own against the European competition – VW Polo, Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa etc. – even if it’s not the most exciting choice in the looks department.

But the arrival of the 2015 Hyundai i20 – previewed in the design sketches (above and below) – looks set to make the i20 more dynamic looking and move its interior further upmarket, something that should ring a few alarm bells for other car makers.

The new i20 features a new take on Hyundai’s design language – Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 – with a long (ish) bonnet and sculpted sides for an altogether more sleek and dynamic looking i20 (although the design sketches are doubtless a little exaggerated).

The nose of the new i20 gets a new take on the traditional Hyundai grill, with a thin horizontal strip connecting the headlights, the sides are sculpted, the C-Pillars get dark treatment to accentuate length and give the back window a wraparound look and the rear lights give the back end interesting proportions.

Hyundai makes no mention of the interior or engines for the new i20, but it seems certain they will be pushing the interior more upmarket, with a redesigned fascia, better connectivity and infotainment, more technology and higher quality materials.

Engines are likely to be carried over from the current i20 – 1.2 and 1.4 litre petrols and a 1.4 litre diesel – with tweaks to yield more power and lower emissions, and possibly the addition of the new 1.0 litre 3-cylinder from the new i10 too.

The 2015 Hyundai i20 will debut at the Paris Motor Show in October and go on sale in 2015.
