Ford’s 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine now going in to 1 in 5 new Fords

Ford’s little pocket-sized engine marvel – the 1.0 litre EcoBoost – is proving so popular with buyers that it is now being fitted to 1 in 5 new Fords in Europe.

Who’d have thought, just a few years ago, that a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder engine would become one of the most popular engines in a new car in Europe?

But that’s exactly what’s happened with the increasingly impressive 1.0 litre EcoBoost from Ford which, as its power output has increased, has become a more and more popular engine of choice.

The little Ford EcoBoost even seems to have persuaded buyers that they should forsake dirty diesel engines for it, and Ford has fitted 120,000 in the first six months of 2014 with almost half B-Max models, a third of Focus and 30 per cent of Fiestas getting the little wonder.

In total, 1 in 5 new Fords in Europe are being delivered with a version of the 1.0 litre EcoBoost, and in the UK that figure rises to 23 per cent.

Barb Samardzich, Ford’s chief operating officer in Europe, said:

Customers are clearly enjoying the benefits from a small engine that offers great fuel efficiency with no compromise to refinement or performance.

The range of models offering the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will rise to 11 when the all-new Mondeo is launched in the coming months, and the new 140 PS version in the Fiesta Red Edition and Black Edition shows there is even more potential.

With the 1.0 litre EcoBoost already available in the Fiesta, B-Max, EcoSport, C-Max, Tourneo and Transit – and soon to be available in the new Ford Mondeo – and with outputs of 100PS, 125PS and now – with the arrival of the Fiesta Red and Black Edition models – 140PS, Ford is proving the versatility of its engine, and that it is a great alternative to a diesel.

No wonder the Ford 1.0 litre EcoBoost has been voted engine of the year every year since it arrived.
