The McLaren Sports Series – McLaren’s new baby ‘P13’ car – is back being teased again, this time with a view of the whole car on track as it tackles a bend sideways.

McLaren Sport Series is back – going sideways
Last month, McLaren finally announced that the long-awaited entry-level McLaren – previously known as the P13 – would get the rather odd ‘Sports Series’ name, and a few days later we got the first photo – even if it was just the nose.
The first new McLaren since the staggering P1 arrived (the 650S wasn’t new, just a titivated 12C) the Sports Series sits at the opposite end of the price scale to the P1, expected to start at around £120,000 when it goes on sale after a likely debut at the New York Auto Show in April.
What the new photo shows is a car that’s identifiable as a McLaren, but with a more restrained take on the nose of the 650S and P1, and mirrors that look to be further out on the doors.
We’re assuming McLaren will be using the same 3.8 litre V8 in the Sports Series that they do in both the P1 and 650S, but with a lower power output than either – something north of 500bhp seems likely.
It will also use the same carbon fibre tub as the 650S and the same 7-speed Graziano gearbox, and we expect the suspension will be similar too, and therefore imbue the Sport Series with the same sort of appealing comfort and dynamics balance as the 650S.
No doubt we’ll get more soon on the Sports Series as McLaren continue to build interest ahead of its debut.
