The new Honda NSX has arrived at the Detroit Auto Show in production guise, complete with a twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain expected to deliver 550bhp.

New Honda NSX FINALLY arrives (as the Acura NSX)

It’s taken 25 years since the first Honda NSX arrived for Honda to reveal a new NSX, with lots of false starts on the way and concepts (here and here) to get excited about. But now the production version of the 2015 Honda NSX has finally arrived at the Detroit Auto Show – albeit in North American Acura NSX guise.
Honda say the NSX was designed from the inside out – as a ‘human-centred’ supercar – with the focus on the driver, so the interior has exceptional forward visibility, class-leading ergonomics, simple and intuitive controls with a dynamic TFT display, hand-crafted leather dash, ultra-thin A-pillars and a low-mounted instrument panel for better visibility.
Under the skin there’s a fully independent all aluminium front and rear suspension with the weight low down and towards the middle for class-leading centre of gravity, carbon ceramic brakes, Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All Wheel Drive, Agile Handling Assist and a choice of driving modes – Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track.
Power comes from an all-new mid-mounted 75-degree DOHC V6 mated to a 9-speed DCT gearbox with an electric motor between the engine and transmission to support acceleration, braking and gear shifting, and an electric motor on each front wheel which offer instantaneous torque and left-right dynamic torque distribution. It’s thought the total output of the NSX’s hybrid powertrain is over 550bhp.
It all looks very appealing, but if you want one you’re going to have to wait, as UK NSX orders have already been closed after the first year’s allocation sold out.
