Tesla Model X SUV deliveries to start in September in US: OFFICIAL

Tesla has revealed that the first Model X SUV deliveries will start in the USA in September 2015, although it will probably be another year before the UK gets Model X.

The Tesla Model X SUV – Tesla’s SUV take on the Model S – has been ‘on the way’ for a very long time, but in their latest shareholder report the company confirms deliveries will start in September in the US, although it will probably be a year before the UK has a chance of getting their hands on a customer car.

Tesla has just completed a one week shutdown of its Freemont plant to accommodate the shared production of the Model X with the Model S and is now set to deliver customer cars.

The news comes as Tesla deliver interesting numbers for its performance in Q2, with a record production of 12,807 cars and delivery of 11,532 – a new record for Tesla – as well as additional revenue from its newly launched used programme.

Tesla also confirmed that the will be revealing the Model 3 – the new, 3-Series size Tesla – in the first quarter of 2016, with sales expected to start in 2017.

Despite all the bullish news, Tesla also managed to burn through incredible amounts of money, with losses for the second quarter of 2015 standing at a whopping £118 million.

How the future looks for Tesla – despite the imminent arrival of the Model X, record production and the prospect of the Model 3 – is debatable as mainstream car makers start to catch up with Tesla offerings with cars like the electric Q6 SUV, which will be previewed at Frankfurt by the Audi C-BEV Concept, potentially offering a serious alternative.
