2016 Toyota Prius turns up completely undisguised
The new Toyota Prius – Toyota’s updated hybrid star – is due to be revealed at Frankfurt next month, but we have photos of it being transported undisguised.
The first close-up photos of the new Toyota Prius have appeared on-line, showing a new Prius that seems to have taken its inspiration from the new Toyota Mirai FCEV, a look Toyota clearly want to shout out as ‘Green’.The look of the new Prius is most influenced by the Mira at the front, with boomerang headlights and grills that look the same, although the profile is still current Prius, but perhaps with a bit more panache.
Underpinning the Prius is Toyota’s New Global Architecture which will also be used across a range of Toyota vehicles, promising a suite of lighter and more compact components to save weight. Added stiffness and better location of components should also help ride and dynamics – and cut manufacturing costs.
Power is expected to be from Toyota’s 1.8 litre petrol engine with an electric motor – good for an adequate 135bhp or so – with official economy somewhere in the mid-8os mpg and an electric-only range that could be as high as 35 miles.
Toyota are keen to get the new Prius to market before stronger competition starts to arise from other car makers – particularly Hyundai and Kia – and it will be on sale after its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
