McLaren P1, LaFerrari & Porsche 918 SHOOTOUT
The Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 are the three hypercars of the day, but which is quickest? This video shows them on track at Silverstone.
Just this week, we got news that Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May are pitting the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and LaFerrari on their new Top Gear replacement Amazon Prime Show. But they’ve been beaten to the airways with a shootout of the three greatest supercars of our time by Paul Bailey.Paul Bailey is the UK business man who owns the holy trinity of current supercars, and he’s let his three babies loose on track at Silverstone in the hands of BTCC Champion driver Mat Jackson.
All three cars were given a service a week before the shootout, and all three arrived with a full tank of fuel to set a time round Silverstone’s shorter track.
The first car to take to the track was the McLaren P1 – which had to suffer very slightly damper conditions – followed by the Ferrari and Porsche – with all three cars setting a time under one minute.
But, despite the McLaren being first to go – and having poorer track conditions – it was the victor with a time of 58.24 seconds, the Porsche came second with 58.47s and the Ferrari LaFerrari last in a time of 58.58 seconds.
Frankly, the times are so close we’re not sure they tell us anything, apart from the fact that Paul Bailey is not likely to be getting another car from Ferrari in the near future.
Still, it’s a win for McLaren. Something we haven’t heard all year.
