Ant Anstead reveals the Jaguar E-Type as the best British car EVER
The Jaguar E-Type, rather unsurprisingly, has been declared the best British car ever at Classic & Sports Car’s London Show event at Alexandra Palace.
We’re not entirely sure why the Classic & Sports Car Show in London decided that the should spend six months selecting and voting on which British car deserves the title of ‘Best British Car Ever’ when the outcome was almost a certainty. But they did. Now, to no one’s great surprise, the results are in and it’s the Jaguar E-Type that’s taken the top gong (as it almost always does) at the show, with presenter Ant Anstead taking the wraps off the original launch car from 1961 Geneva – E-Type Reg No. 77 RW – although anyone who couldn’t work out what was under the sheet didn’t deserve to be at the show.
The E-Type beat off competition from cars like the McLaren F1, Bentley Speed Six, Range Rover and Mini Cooper S, with the expert panel – including Gordon Murray and Nick Mason – coming up with a shortlist that went to a public vote.
James Elliott, Classic & Sport Car Magazine’s group editor, said:
The E-type has it all, looks to stop traffic and a driving experience that has stood the test of time. When it was new you could not have bought more style and performance for the price. It is a car that continues to seduce young and old and is a very worthy winner.
The London Classic and Sport Car Show has more than 300 drool-worthy classic cars on display at Ally Pally from today (30 October 2015) until Sunday.
