Jaguar XE gets five stars in latest round of Euro NCAP tests

The new Jaguar XF – and the recently updated XF – have both received the maximum five stars in the latest round of Euro NCAP tests.

It should be a given the premium cars will perform admirably in Euro NCAP tests, but until they’re actually performed you never know. But Jaguar can breather a sigh of relief – and give themselves a pat on the back – as the new Jaguar XE and the latest XF have both sailed through the latest round of Euro NCAP tests with flying colours.

Both the XE and XF scored well across the range of tests – adult occupancy, child occupancy, pedestrian and safety assist – with the XE averaging 84.25 per cent across the four tests, and the XF just pipping the XE with an across the board average of 84.75 per cent.

Jaguar credit their latest test results to their high standards of manufacture, and to their lightweight aluminium architecture offering exceptional crash protection, as well as a wide range of safety systems, including the standard fit (in Europe at least) of Autonomous Emergency Braking.

Kevin Stride, Jaguar’s Vehicle Line Director, said:

The XE and XF were engineered without compromise: we placed just as much focus on safety as we did on dynamics, performance, refinement and efficiency, and our stringent in-house standards far exceed the requirements of legislative and consumer tests.

Everything from the aluminium alloys we developed for the body structures to the state-of-the-art stereo camera at the heart of the Autonomous Emergency Braking system has been painstakingly optimised to deliver world-class levels of safety.

But it wasn’t just Jaguar’s cars undergoing Euro NCAP testing, the latest round of tests saw cars from BMW, Infiniti, Kia, Lancia, Lexus, Mercedes, MINI, Nissan, Vauxhall and Renault subjected to scrutiny.

As you’d expect, most managed five stars, but a few notable failures were just three stars for the BMW Z4 and a woeful two stars for the Lancia Ypsilon (be warned when you hire one on holiday). But the new MINI Clubman dropped a star – receiving just four stars – and the Nissan Navara did the same.
