2016 Top Gear line-up: Rory Reid, Sabine Schmitz, Matt Le Blanc, Chris Evans, Chris Harris, Eddie Jordan and The Stig
The line-up of presenters for the 2016 Top Gear is officially revealed as Chris Evans, Matt Le Blanc, Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz, Eddie Jordan and Rory Reid.
We’ve had endless speculation about who will present the new Top Gear alongside Chris Evans, and now we know. From the established format of three amigos – Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – plus the Stig, we now move to a gaggle of six sidekicks supporting the main act, with Matt Le Blanc, Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz, Eddie Jordan, Rory Reid and The Stig to make a combined Chris Evans ‘Magnificent Seven’.
Of the five new co-presenters, only Rory Reid will be unfamiliar, but he’s a car reviewer and TV presenter who went through open auditions to grab his place.
Eddie Jordan needs no introduction, and with a background as an F1 team owner and F1 pundit – and a man not afraid to air his views – he should bring something to proceedings.
Sabine Schmitz is already know to Top Gear viewers as the Queen of the Nurburgring, and a woman who can drive a lot better that Jeremy ever could.
Chris Harris is a motoring journalist and star YouTube car reviewer who can not only drive, but has the ability to convey exactly what’s going on, even at high speed and sideways.
Mat LeBlanc is clearly a petrolhead, can drive a bit and will do wonders for the BBC’s chances of convincing the rest of the world to take on the new Top Gear – it’s Joey from Friends, is the pitch.
Then there’s the Stig, although with Chris Harris clearly earmarked for supercar driving it’ll be interesting to see how the new Top Gear uses him.
So that’s it, an all-new line-up for an all-new Top Gear, and if nothing else the BBC’s diversity committee will be chuffed it’s not an all white, all male cast.
The 2016 re-boot of Top Gear is due to air on 8 May.
