Toyota C-HR Compact SUV arrives with either hybrid or 1.2 litre petrol power

The new Toyota C-HR Compact SUV Crossover has been officially revealed at the Geneva Motor Show with both hybrid and petrol power.

The production version of the Toyota C-HR was revealed a few days ago in a set of leaked photos, but now it’s arrived officially at the Geneva Motor Show featuring edgy styling and either a 121bhp hybrid powertrain or a 1.2 litre turbo petrol.

Looking like Toyota’s take on the Nissan Juke (although the C-HR is much closer in size to the Qashqai) Toyota have big hopes of mopping up a sizeable chunk of the ever-growing market for compact, urban SUVs and Crossover with the C-HR.

Underpinned by the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) as the new Prius, the C-HR has stayed close to the ‘Fugly is appealing’ style of the concept C-HR with its rather jarring angles and coupe roof.

Toyota say the dynamics of the C-HR have been honed in Europe and benchmarked against C-Segment hatchbacks to create a crossover with good dynamics, great body control and fluid steering.

Under the bonnet will be a choice of two powertrains, with the 121bhp hybrid powertrain creating the first hybrid vehicle in its segment and mated to a CVT, and the 1.2 litre turbo petrol delivering 114bhp with either a six-speed manual or CVT.

There is also a 2.0 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine for the C-HR, but that’s not going to be on offer in the UK.

The new Toyota C-HR will go on sale in the UK in the second half of 2016. No prices have been revealed.
