New 2017 Land Rover Discovery revealed – Discovery 5 debuts in Paris

The first official photo of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery – the Discovery 5 – has been released ahead of the new Discovery’s debut at the Paris Motor Show.

It’s been a long time coming, but the new Land Rover Discovery – the fifth generation of Land Rover’s ‘Lifestyle’ seven-seater, first seen in 1989 – will be fully revealed at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

Land Rover has released just two images of the new Discovery – one, above, showing it with its predecessors, and one on its own (below) – but they both show just a head-on view so plenty of scope for LR to tease a little more between now and the new Disco’s reveal on 28 September.

But it doesn’t take a Land Rover anorak to have a pretty good idea of what’s coming; a grown-up version of the Discovery Sport (and looking very like the Discovery Vision Concept) with a few hints from its lineage (like an off-set number plate and stepped tailgate at the back), offering seven proper seats and challenging the appeal the new Volvo Xc90 has so justifiably garnered.

Land Rover are being very sparse with detail at the moment, but expect a higher quality interior than the current Disco, lots of technology and a proper ability to go anywhere (still LR’s USP).

Under the bonnet – where just the 3.0 litre diesel is currently offered – expect to see entry-level Discoveries sporting a 2.0 litre Ingenium engine or two, and probably JLR’s current 3.0 diesel too for now until the 3.0 litre Ingenium engines arrive, and, at some point, a plug-in hybrid.

More on the 2017 Land Rover Discovery will probably be revealed before the official debut in Paris on 28 September.
